21 Ways To Motivate Yourself And Get Back On Track When You’re Feeling Stuck And Down

No matter how clear you are about your goals and your actions, there are always times when you lose motivation, feel stuck and don’t want to get back on track.

It can be very hard when you get into that state.

Change takes time and in order to effect real change, you’ve got to be consistent at whatever it is that you’ve decided to do.

However, when you lose motivation and don’t do what you’re supposed to do, you break the momentum.

This can set you back significantly with respect to your goals, objectives and plans.

So how do you get back on track?

That’s why I wrote this article.

In this article, I share 21 simple and powerful things that you can do to motivate yourself and get back on track when you’re feeling stuck and down…

  1. Wake Up Early

The way you wake up each morning determines the course of your day. Do you wake up proactively or re-actively?It’s ok to use an alarm clock to rise you up at a certain time… but when the alarm goes off, what do you do?

  • Do you turn it off and look forward to begin your day?

OR

  • Do you end up snoozing your alarm a couple more times?

The former is proactive while the latter is reactive.… And it makes a HUGE difference to your motivation levels. Start making changes to your sleep habits so you can wake up proactively instead of re actively.

  1. Eat Food That Fuels You

Your food needs to fuel you. However, for most of us, food is a drug that we use to satiate our taste buds.Your diet significantly affects your mental and emotional state.

If you eat healthy foods and drink healthy drinks, you’ll feel alert, energetic and charged. But if you eat unhealthy foods and drinks, you’ll feel sluggish, drained and will have a hard time motivating yourself.

Always ensure that the following foods are in your diet – fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, little bit of fruit and lean meats (for non-vegetarians).

  1. Rest Peacefully

One of the main reasons why many people in our modern society feel burned out and stressed is because they neglect their sleep.Rest is crucial to your body’s functioning.

Schedule a time each night by which you will be in bed at all costs. Do not swerve from this time.

Ensure that your schedule allows for 7 – 8 hrs. of sleep each night. It’s the most IMPORTANT thing because it’ll allow you to give your best in all the other areas of your life.

  1. Discover Your Purpose

If you find yourself making wrong choices in life, stop right there and realign your goals by determining your major life purpose. I always encourage my clients to ensure that every choice they make is aligned with their ultimate purpose in life.

It’s your purpose that drives you to your destination.

  1. Be Yourself

Most of us tend to emulate others. Remember that you are unique and there can never be any other person like you on this earth ever.

Reflect on this thought deeply… and once you truly feel it, you will begin to be yourself and work towards becoming the best person that you can be.

  1. Practice Self-Discipline

Self-Discipline is your ability to do what you should do when you should do it whether you feel like it or not. It’s the most important key when it comes to overcoming your motivation problems.

Champions subordinate their feelings to their values and do what they’re supposed to do. They practice self-discipline.

The question is… Do you want to be a champion or do you want to be a loser?

The most successful men and women are extremely disciplined in both their personal and professional lives. If you want to achieve something worthy in life, realize that it’s going to take work. It’s going to require sacrifices.

And if you can’t discipline yourself to make those sacrifices, you’ll have a hard time achieving your goals.

  1. No Man or Woman Is an Island

We need people to lean on especially when things aren’t going great. Even if things are going great, it’s important to be able to have someone with whom you can confide your goals.

Trying to work alone can cause you to fail and you might end up slipping into your old habits. So be sure to team up with a friend or coach who can give you the support you need to achieve your goals.

  1. Be Honest

If you’re dishonest, people can easily see through. In my life, one of the core principles that I honor is honesty. I am honest to myself and others about my intentions, goals and objectives.

… and this has allowed me to have a massive influence in my interaction with others. If you’re honest at your core, I guarantee that your ability to influence others will grow exponentially.

  1. Move Your Body

If you aren’t committing a certain period of time each day for exercise, you are setting yourself up for failure. You don’t have to engage in rigorous exercise.

… But if you want to be a self-driven, motivated and disciplined individual, you’ll find that daily consistent exercise for a few minutes each day can make a massive difference.

  1. Every Day Is Your Chance To Be The Best

Each morning when I wake up, I always tell this to myself, “This is a wonderful new day and a new opportunity to be the best person I can ever be. I am not competing with anybody else but myself. I am committed to being the best person I can be today”.

That’s the attitude I wake up with each morning. And I encourage you to start telling this to yourself.

  1. Grab Things In The Moment

Opportunities don’t knock on your door every day.If you’re someone who isn’t decisive enough to grab the opportunity before you, you’ll miss it before you realize.

Your ability to be decisive and grab the opportunities that knock your door is the MOST important trait that you can build.

  1. Find A Mentor

Sharing your ideas with someone, asking for their feedback and then acting on it is a sign of strength than weakness. It’s important to have someone that can mentor you with your personal and professional goals.

Find a trusted adviser who can be brutally honest about your strengths, weaknesses and help you maximize your strengths while eliminating your weaknesses.

  1. Your Attitude Is What Matters

At the end of the day, no matter how terrible your situation seems, it’s your state of mind that affects you more than anything else. You can either look at the glass as half full or half empty.

The way you see the world is what matters. If you learn to keep a calm, positive outlook even when things look bad, you will naturally begin moving towards your goals.

  1. Be Goofy

Create some timeouts during the day where you can spend some time having fun with your friends, co-workers, spouse or child. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Taking some time away from work every now and then and doing something else allows you to think with more clarity and be more effective in the things you do.

So be sure to play goofy. It’s worth it believe me.

  1. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude for who you are as a person today and the things that you have NOT only makes you feel better, but it also strengthens your resilience.

When you’re feeling down and demotivated, it’s important that you bounce back strongly. Gratitude allows you to do that. So be sure to step back every now and then and give thanks to what you already have.

  1. Learn To Say NO

Another tendency that I’ve come across with many of my clients is that they have a hard time saying NO to something they cannot fulfill or something they do not believe in. You can’t be all things to everyone at all times. When you try, you lose motivation.

It’s a hard choice to make – but you have to learn to make them… because that’s what determines whether you succeed or struggle.

  1. Trust Your Gut Instincts

Your gut instincts or intuition is something that ALWAYS guides you in the right direction. The problem with most of us is that we don’t reflect and listen to it deeply.

First, believe in yourself and the direction you’ve chosen to go. You already know intuitively what is right for you. You just have to train yourself to trust your intuitive judgement and stick with it.

  1. Quit Giving Excuses

Benjamin Franklin, once said, “He that is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else”.

It’s very common in our culture today. We’ve gotten very good at giving excuses to under performance.

It’s up to you to decide whether you’re going to be an excuse-man/women like everyone else or someone who delivers on his/her  promises.

  1. Everything Happens Twice

Remember, your outer world is merely a reflection of your inner world. Whatever is happening right now in your external world has already happened in your mind first. That’s why you perceive it that way.

You’re the one with absolute control over your mind. Focus on planting the picture of how you want your life to be in your mind first and then get to work. You’ll manifest your ideal reality sooner than later.

  1. Work On Small Wins

One of the keys to success is momentum and confidence. When you focus on doing small things first and do them well, you gather confidence and momentum… which in turn allows you to go after bigger goals easily.

So break things down into small hourly increments. And then focus on giving your best during that time. That’s how normal people just like you & me  become giants.

21, Practice Compassion

“Do unto others as you shall have done unto you” – The Bible.

“What goes around comes around”.

Remember this and make a lifelong habit of practicing compassion. Be considerate. Develop healthy interdependent relationships with people in your personal  and professional life.

Do not be self-centered or a narcissist.
