Have you been trying to lose weight but can’t seem to figure out why you’ve been unsuccessful? The answer isn’t the fad diet you’ve attempted, nor is it a simple matter of willpower.
Working with people over the years, has given me an insight on what one can focus on to begin the journey of losing weight. I always believe that losing weight and being healthy is a lifestyle change and at no time will encourage anyone to take a shortcut.
Here are the 3 common reasons people “fail” at their weight loss attempts according to me. Do any of these sound familiar?
You are afraid of using weights:
In my experience as a Wellness coach, I have seen that most are scared of a strength training regimen. Somewhere they have it in their head, that strength training is for bodybuilders only.As per the latest research, weight training is one of the best options for just about anybody who can invest 30-40 minutes, 3-4 times a week.
Are you aware that through weight training, you will continue to burn calories up to 72 hours after the exercise is over through a phenomenon called after-burn? Now this is the key when it comes to our body type, which is predominantly pear shaped.
One thing which I would more often than not recommend to my clients is if possible hit the gym 2-3 times a week & not shy away from the weight section.
You compare yourself to others:
Remember there was never a person like you or never will be,another one like you in a million years. Do yourself a favour and stop comparing yourself to others in terms of their weight management.
You need to figure out & realise that what works for you and makes you feel good about yourself. Do not try to follow someone else’s diet plan. This needs to be your personal journey. There is no one glove fits all solution and most of the time weight loss begins only through trial & error.
Try to be your own expert & communicate with your body to get to your goals.Create the image of your weight loss journey in your mind & you will be more than surprised how things will pan out eventually.
You are not consistent in your Exercise & food habits:
The biggest achievers are those who are consistent in their approach. Your success in weight management, depends on how consistent you are & how fast you get up once you fall down. All of us tend to fail more, than we succeed when it comes to life altering goals.
You cannot dwell over this and miss out on the future. If you are looking at losing weight & maintaining it for your life, then you need a lifestyle change in being consistent and walking towards your goals with blinders.
Remember that if you do want to look & feel good, then it has to be a Lifestyle change. It will be a tough nut to crack, but I will guarantee you that you will be more happier through this journey than the destination.
