Over the years, I have worked with several executives and entrepreneurs.
Some of whom were extremely successful professionally but their personal life was nothing great .
At the same time, there have also been clients whose family life is brilliant, health is great but professionally, they’re struggling to find themselves.
I came across very few people who have it both – those who have succeeded both personally and professionally.
When I looked at their lives, I found one glaring truth – their habits and consistency.
They developed the right habits and were consistent with them.
The others that succeeded in one area of their life and failed at another simply didn’t have the right habits.
And even if they did have them, it wasn’t just consistent enough to produce the results they needed.
With that said, here are 4 key habits that you need to adopt in order to succeed personally and professionally…
Develop Mental Clarity:
One thing I noticed among people who succeed both professionally and personally is that they are internally driven. They have absolute clarity in terms of where they are going and what they are willing to do to get there.
They are clear about what they want in every area of their life – health, career/business, money, relationships, family, etc.
But when I look at those who struggle, I find that their clarity and vision is myopic. They’re either just focused on their personal goals or only on their professional goals.
If you really want to lead a fulfilling life, you need to look at the overall picture and take every aspect of your life into consideration.
When you have absolute mental clarity in terms of what you want for every area of your life, you will take better decisions and act on them more quickly than you would otherwise.
Keep A Clear Head:
You may have so many different things coming to you from different directions – but it’s important that you don’t keep them in your head.
Keeping them in your head and trying to work through them will affect your focus and ability to concentrate. It only leads to more stress and anxiety.
That’s why I tell my clients not to hold thoughts in their head. I encourage them to write down all the thoughts, ideas and tasks they have in a journal or piece of paper.
Once you write them down, your mind will free up and it’ll be a lot easier to focus. You’ll have a clear, cool head with which you can accomplish wonders.
Be Committed To The Long Haul:
Sustainable success requires persistence and consistency in the long-term.
Your mindset needs to change from a person who wants to gratify their desires in the short-term to a person who wants to gratify their long-term desires.
A lot of brilliant people fall by the wayside primarily due to this one factor. They are not committed to make the hard sacrifices in the short-term so they can have a better life in the long-term.
Get Deeper Into Your Vision:
If you were to ask me what drove me as an employee in my former corporate career, my answer would be – Money.
But now it’s no longer the case. I’m not interested in the money that I make as a professional coach. What I’m truly interested in is the difference that I make for other people.
That’s what gives me ultimate happiness and fulfillment. And you must have a similar motivation too.
If money is still your primary source of motivation, it’s going to be extremely hard for you to overcome the setbacks and challenges you will experience.
The only way to overcome this is to identify your non-monetary source of motivation. To me – it’s making a difference to the lives of my clients.
