Are you someone who thrives on constant change or someone who abhors it? Some of the greatest game-changing shifts happen when you begin to adapt to the situation and work from where you are with what you already have.
Whether you’re a CEO, Entrepreneur or an Artist, it’s highly critical that you turn into a person who strongly believes that change is for the better. Making changes in your life does not have to consist of making radical changes.
It’s actually something that you can start small with the tools that you already have… which will eventually alter the course of your life and get you to where you want.
With that said, here are a few steps that you can take to create change successfully in your life even if you don’t know where to start…
Creating change begins with finding the energy for it:
Making a sudden drastic change or a course correction is not really easy… but it is very critical that you do it to get to where you want in life. Just like how a pilot corrects the course on a passenger aircraft, you have to be conscious and make the necessary course corrections voluntarily.
From my personal experience, I have noticed that change happens successfully, when you find a strong reason why – your motivating factor. That’ll give you the energy to make the course corrections necessary.
Identify your own North Star:
When I was traversing in the high altitudes of the Himalayas, the one thing we always looked out for was the North Star. The mountains were remote and there were no sign boards or anything of that sort. The only thing that was constant was the North Star – which kept telling us that we are moving in the right direction.
And if you want to create successful change, it’s time to identify your own North Star – the one goal that keeps you focussed and gives you reassurance. Your North Star has to be something that challenges and stimulates you.
It shouldn’t be something that you can easily achieve and at the same time, it’s not something that you can give up on due to failure.
It’s something that you should keep striving towards – even though at times you may not achieve it.
Here’s a perfect example to illustrate this…
We kept looking at the North Star every now and then to ensure that we are on track. That was our vision – the constant goal. But our ultimate destination was getting to the highest motorable road in the world. We didn’t reach the North Star but we did reach our destination.
Engage with people and your environment:
No man or woman is an island and it’s impossible to move forward in your life – all on your own. You need the assistance of various people – who may willingly or unwillingly help you on your journey. So it’s important that you engage with people and your environment with your changed outlook and gather support from them.
Create Milestones:
Like I said in the North Star example before, the only way you’ll persist with your goal is when you feel validated that you are moving in the right direction. No good thing can be achieved without experiencing certain hardships and it’s easy to throw in the towel when you come across hardships.
And that’s where milestones come in handy. Work on creating small, incremental milestones, that you can reach consistently to give you the confidence boost you need. Make changes incrementally and it will truly help you create the life you want.
