How To Conquer Your Beer Belly

The one thing that embarrasses us more than anything else is the – beer belly.

Excess fat in the mid-section is condemned by everyone and yet, it’s something that has become increasingly common.

Almost 2 in 3 people that you find walking in the street either have the beer belly or are on their way towards developing one.

There’s a strong chance that you belong to one of those categories. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be reading this.

If you already have it or are on your way to developing one, it’s high-time that you pull up your socks and do whatever you can do to get rid of it.

Most health issues begin as a result of fat accumulating in the mid-section. In the human body(especially Indians), the belly is the first part that begins to accumulate fat.

Our body’s natural processes don’t care about our six-pack fantasies. Its sole purpose is SURVIVAL.

Back in the day, when we were hunter-gatherers/farmers, there used to be long periods of famine and drought where no food was available.

In order to ensure that we don’t die of starvation, our bodies began to store fat.

And the mid-section is one area where most of the fat can be stored for use later.

As a result, we are genetically predisposed to pile on pounds and store body fat. In addition to that, our sedentary lifestyle with little or no activity accelerates the process.

Getting rid of it is DIFFICULT but it’s not impossible. No good thing can ever be achieved without a bit of sacrifice.

If you’re willing to make the sacrifices necessary, then the attractive trim mid-section is yours for the taking…

Knock some pounds of your weight:

You seriously do have a six pack hiding behind the fat around your mid-section. If you can get rid of it, you’ll be walking around with an attractive six pack that has people stare at you.

The simplest way to accomplish that is by losing weight. The key to losing weight consists of 3 core fundamentals:

  • Good exercise regimen
  • Quality food intake
  • Appropriate rest

It doesn’t matter whether you do sit ups or not. If you lose weight and keep your body percentage around 8 – 14%, your abs will start showing (for men). For women, your body fat can be slightly more.

Spot Reduction Is A Myth:

Some of the fittest people on the planet – from Navy Seals to Professional Athletes – never do any single sit-ups or shun crunches. In fact, some military training guides discourage their men from performing isolated abdominal exercises.

Here’s why…

Isolated abdominal exercises are ONLY meant for bodybuilders and other people who are in the show business. They need to strive extremely hard to make their abs pop.

However, you don’t need to do it. If you follow a fitness regimen that is comprehensive in nature, you will develop an exceptionally strong CORE. Your well-defined abs will just be the side-effect of your strong core.

And your CORE is everything. If you have a strong core, you will have the strength to do any physical activity effortlessly.

Stop Loading On Empty Calories:

Empty calories mainly come from foods that are usually deep fried and also from sugary soft drinks. They have zero nutritional value and just provide additional calories to your body. All of these calories are stored as fat.

It’s up to you to identify these foods and eliminate them from your diet as much as possible. Create a food journal and note down all the foods that you are eating. That’ll help a lot.

White sugar is a main culprit and you’ll do yourself a big favour by avoiding it completely. Also try to cut back on refined floor and worthless calories from cakes, cookies, pastries, crackers, chips, white bread, etc.

Focus On Full Body Exercises:

Instead of performing exercises that only target certain areas of the body, focus on the whole body by engaging in activities like:

  • Resistance training
  • Running
  • Swimming
  • And other outdoor sports

A full body exercise program elongates your muscles, lubricates your joints and releases the pressure that compacts your vertebral column.

The above is the magical formula for people with lower back issues due to a sedentary lifestyle.

I strongly encourage my clients to develop a routine where they consistently hit the gym 3 – 4 times a week.

Strength training is something that you’ll never regret as it’ll make your muscles and bones stronger as you age.

Learn To Manage Stress:

The worst thing one can do is to make their metabolism sluggish. I have come across many people who lead hectic lives with their cholesterol levels shooting through the roof on a day to day basis.

This leads to a sluggish metabolism which can deter all of your fitness goals. To prevent this, you need to learn to manage stress and not allow it to control your life.
