Everybody does know that it’s a gargantuan task to make big changes in life to become healthier. However, if I tell you that the opposite does work more effectively, at least some of you might be interested to know more.
One of the most common reasons why I do see many well-meaning adults not focusing on their health is due to this one factor which is “the energy & the time commitment is more often too great”.
I believe that small consistent changes do work magically and you, for now have to “just let go of the fact” of even thinking about your big goals of losing a certain weight or in some cases building some lean muscles by stepping into a gym.
What I am going to share with you in the next few lines are something which has been working for me as well as for my own clients over the years. We shall look at working on the bigger goals on a later day.
For now, let’s focus on the trees rather than the forest. Find below the top 7 action steps which each one of you can begin from this moment, to flip your health goals upside down.
Sleep & Wake up with an Attitude of Gratitude:
I am a big believer of – how we condition our mind plays a critical role in driving our destiny. There can be no better time than the 24 hours available for each one of us to take actions to condition our own mind.
More & more research is pointing towards the direction that “an Attitude of Gratitude” is the most important aspect for people being successful in any area of life, be it personal or professional.
I always make it a point to work on this just before winding up for the night and also at the beginning of my day. Try it! You will be surprised with yourself as to how the whole day turns out.
Never Skip Breakfast:
I do come across more and more people not having breakfast at all or not having it within the two hours’ window of waking up. Now, there is a deeper physical and physiological long term damage, caused due to this which I do not want to discuss in this particular blog.
However, to get to the crux of the issue, it is imperative that one does have a healthy protein-dense breakfast. You will begin to notice a huge surge in your energy levels during the day and it will also keep your metabolism humming till you wind up.
This is more of a habit which needs to be inculcated and believe me, once you notice the difference you will do whatever is in your capacity to keep your date with breakfast every day for the rest of your life.
I do not remember a single day in the last couple of decades when I have skipped having my breakfast within two hours of waking up.
Be On Your Feet:
Yes, this sounds simple right? You will be surprised when you realize that most of the people are guilty of sitting for more than 90 percent of their waking time. Yes, for no simple reason it has been highlighted that “Sitting is the new smoking”.
On the other hand, the more time you spend standing on your feet, the more calories one does tend to burn. This is a no-brainer. The muscles in the leg are the biggest in the human body and it does use considerable energy to be active.
You have to be creative and ensure that you are on your feet whenever its possible.
I, for one had a huge challenge in overcoming this. However, it’s a different story altogether now. I am on my feet for more than 50 percent of my time which I am planning to step up by another 10 Percent in the weeks to come.
Create Your Own Sunshine:
Again, lack of sunshine is one of the most common deficiencies I do come across in most people who like me, work most of the time indoor on a computer. It is critical that you plan your schedule to get exposed to the rays of the early morning sun.
More than replenishing your body with Vitamin D, there is something magical which does begin to happen when you do allow the rays of the sun to seep through your skin and energizes you from the inside out.
For me, it’s a daily ritual to spend some time under the sun. However, do be careful not to get exposed too much to the harsh rays of the sun. Vitamin D surge through the natural source can probably be a game changer in your respective quest for taking your respective game to the next level.
Even though there are more than enough supplements out there in the market, I always do prefer the natural way of getting the required quantity be it Protein, Vitamin D or even healthy fats.
Hydrate Yourself Well:
When was the last time you remember drinking 8-10 glasses of water? If you are thinking too much, then you are someone who falls into the category of people, who do not hydrate enough.
It is imperative that one at the minimum, drinks the recommended quantity of 8-10 glasses of water to keep going.
Water is the source of life on this planet and it does play a critical role in removing harmful toxins from the body at the cellular level. Do not fall to the hype of regular Ads promoting alternatives. Always go for plain water without any added taste enhancers.
Consume More of Nature’s Fast Food:
With our lives becoming more and more hectic, it is natural for everybody to spend less time in the kitchen. However, eating more of processed foods is sure to lead one to an unhealthy lifestyle.
The best option available to each one of us is to gorge on “Nature’s Fast Food” which is fresh fruits & vegetables.Yes, even 2-3 servings of these a day is sure to increase our antioxidants drastically and in turn give a big boost to our immunity system.
By being more creative & with a little bit of forward thinking, each one of you can ensure that you get to the recommended 5-6 servings of these a day.
Breathe more deeply:
I am sure you will be surprised when I do say that most do not breathe properly. Yes, most end up breathing shallow which does not serve the real purpose of deep breathing.
When you breathe deeply, there is a process which most do tend to miss out on.Most of the toxins from the cells are removed while this process is going on. I always suggest this to my clients irrespective how hectic their life is
1.Breathe in deep for 3-4 Seconds
2.Hold your breath for twice the amount of time you breathe in. Say, hold the breath for 6-8 Seconds.
3.Breathe out for 3-4 Seconds.
This whole process of breathing in – Holding breath – breathing out is one cycle. I would highly recommend each and every one to do this cycle at least 15-20 times, 2-3 times a day. You will notice that you will feel instantly energized and your thought process becomes that much more clearer.
